Responding to Harassment

If you feel you have been personally harassed

Talk to the individual that you feel is harassing you, explain the behaviours/ actions that are inappropriate and request that it stop; and/or

Write a letter or email to the individual that you feel is harassing you, explain the behaviours/ actions that are inappropriate and request that it stop.

If you witness harassment

Talk to the individual that you feel was mistreated, explain the behaviours/action that you witnessed and ask how they feel; and/or

Talk to the person that you feel was harassing, explain the behaviours/ actions that you witnessed and suggest that they may have been inappropriate.

If someone talks to you regarding your behaviour/ actions:

  • Keep an open mind.

  • Remember that it may not have been your intention but the person’s perception.

  • Avoid becoming defensive.

  • Talk about your feelings.

  • Work together to determine next steps and solutions.

If the harassing behaviour continues, file an official report using the steps listed in Reporting Incidents or Concerns.arrow-up-right

Getting Support

Responding to, and dealing with, harassment can be overwhelming and uncomfortable. If you would like additional support, consider the following options:

  • Talk with a ETG Way Coach

Email requesting a conversation can be sent to:

  • Include your available/ ideal time(s) for contact and your preferred method of contact (phone number, email, teams call).

  • Contact can be made from your work or personal email.

ET Group or HRdownloads will:

  • Listen

  • Provide Coaching/ Support for the individual to informally address the situation.

  • If required, participate in a meeting with the individual and/or the person they feel is harassing them.

  • If required, based on the circumstances assist the individual in completing and filing a formal report. In some situations the person may not want to file a formal complaint, however, management may decide that a formal complaint is required and will report the harassment.
